South of the Black Forest, also known as the high black forest is a mountainous region which includes the highest peaks of the Black Forest and mountain lakes. Largely consisting of the natural park of the forest – black from the South, this region is the ideal for the practice of hiking and other mountain sports. It is also famous for its spas.
We offer a path starting from Fribourg to discover the natural wonders of this region.
Leave the city of Freiburg in the south by taking the road L 124. This winding road takes you to Schauinsland.
Schauinsland
The road leads you to the upper station of cable car. Since the parking, you join a Belvedere Tower climbing stairs. You will then enjoy a magnificent panorama on the Feldberg.
Continue on Route 124 L, and then quickly take the right road K 4958. It joins the road K 4957, in which you engage on the right. At Obergass turn left the road L 123. After Oberneuhof, turn right on Route K 6341, which will take you to Mount Belchen.
Mount Belchen
You have to walk half an hour to reach the summit at the top of which is a viewpoint. Arriving at an altitude of 1414 meters, you will enjoy superb views of the surrounding mountains, the Vosges to the Alps.
Going down the Mount Belchen, turn right into the road until you reach 142 L Road B 317, in which you engage on the left. This road leads you directly to Todtnau.
Falls Todtnau
Two km Todtnau, a path leads you to the impressive waterfalls running down to 97 meters. Allow half an hour walk round trip.
Since Todtnau you will reach the Feldberg massif continuing on the road B 317.
Feldberg massif
It can take a chairlift to gain altitude and so enjoy the view offered by the Feldberg massif. The lift takes you to a first peak, Mount Seebuck, 1448 meters high. You can view this Feldsee discover a small glacial lake.
You will then after half past one round trip walk to climb the last meters separating you from the top of Feldberg, at an altitude of 1493 meters. You cleared the summit offers a superb panorama that bears to the Alps.
Continue the road B 317, which joins the B 500. Get involved on the latter to the south (right). You will arrive directly at the lake Schluchsee.
Schluchsee
The mountain lake has become the largest Black Forest following the construction of a dam. It hosts one of its banks spa full of charm. It is also the ideal setting for practice all water sports, sailing to swimming through the pedal. But the shores of Lake Schluchsee are furnished trails that will allow you to walk around the lake, or at least part, on foot or by bike.
Retrace your steps on the road B 500, heading north. At Bächenthal, take Route 4962 K, which takes you to Lake Titisee.
Return on your steps on the road B 500, towards the North. At the level of Bachenthal, take the K 4962 road, which leads you to the Titisee Lake.
Titisee
This glacial lake, situated at the crossroads of several tourist routes, has become a major center of attraction in the Black Forest. It is known for the clarity of its waters, which make it a protected site. The purity of this water on the other hand led to the development of a resort that specializes in hydrotherapy. Lake Titisee is also the starting point for many excursions in the Black Forest.
