Late holiday deals appeal as Olympics draw closer

According to recent research many Britons are in search of late holiday deals in order to get away from the chaos that the Olympics is sure to bring. Currency exchange website Travelex has found that almost a third of Britons travelling abroad this summer are doing so specifically to get away from the Olympics.

Recently it has been reported that some London apartment blocks may host ground to air missile batteries on their roofs for the Olympics – another example of the kind of thing that is driving many Londoners away from the city for the duration of the Games.

Additionally MPs have said that long queues at Heathrow during the Olympics will be bad for Britain’s image, and have called on the government to come up with a solution to the problem. Hundreds of thousands of visitors and tourists are expected to descend on London for the Games.

This is why many have decided to leave the country this summer in favor of a sunny beach over the prospect of watching Olympic glory.

Says Wendy Pritchard, of Marlow, Buckinghamshire, which sits close to the M40 motorway: “We usually go on a family holiday towards the end of summer, hoping to pick up a last minute deal. But this year we want to get away as soon as possible. With the Olympics coming up I expect the roads to be gridlocked and for it to be a nightmare to get around. We’re hoping to be somewhere sunny and a little more calm come the start of the Games!”

For those who do want to get away from the UK during the Games, but who fail to book ahead, the internet is full of great last minute deals which won’t break the bank. Those who want to find holiday bargains are best to go to a travel website like Thomas Cook.
