Battilcalao, located on the east coast of Sri Lanka, is home to some of the most beautiful beaches and the most attractive landscapes of the island. Unfortunately, this area was devastated by the tsunami famous already held by the impact it had at the time. However, it is now very recovered and can be a great option for those who feel a special attraction to see the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Batticaloa is located about 300 km from Colombo and occupies the central area of the eastern part. It is in a long and sandy, separated from the mainland by a lagoon, which stretches south for miles.
The charms of the beaches of Batticaloa, are well known for its tranquility and unspoiled and little explored. The Pasikuda beach is a sheltered bay of the ocean. The most significant aspect of this beach is that the sand is well established and is quite consistent giving a nice and funny feeling when we walk barefoot on it. This can be experienced by about 200 meters along the coastline.
Pasikuda beach is an ideal place for those who do nothing very well and want to learn, as the waters remain fairly quiet. It really is a place to relax and forget all the problems.
The Kalkudah beach is also Battilcalao area, and the waters are somewhat blurred. This is ideal for those looking for something more action at the time of entering the water, and for those who like to fight with the waves.
On some occasions, in January and February, the lake is open for people living on its banks, and a path is opened between the lagoon and the sea. When this happens, incredible marine life comes into the lake. Here is where the famous fish singers. These musical sounds are heard in the lake under a full moon and no wind. If you’re lucky, you may hear them at night under ideal conditions. Ask around for more information.
Battilcalao Lagoon presents unique opportunities for boating, fishing and watch the bird life there is around. Although not the longest lagoon in Sri Lanka, is the most navigable long distance from the others. One of the interesting things Battilcalao is that there are conditions that do not leave everything to be somewhat artificial, such as a traditional tourist resort, and everything looks very natural.
Normally, the rule is to have warm, sunny days, even in the monsoon season. The average temperature is about 25 degrees C, but as we move to the west the temperature goes down. There are several hotels and restaurants in the area where we can eat, although it is a fairly virgin, so do not expect to find pubs, eating or motels every two steps.
